The Steeples of Stockholm

Combine Kolla Art
Posted on 11/06/2020

Stockholm boasts many beautiful things, from her winding cobblestone streets, storybook buildings, and the picturesque water that surrounds our famous city. Thus, when you first think of Stockholm, the first image that comes to your mind most likely isn’t of the church steeples. Yet these towering spires that crown much of the city provide visitors and locals alike with a connection to history, a sense of architectural achievement, and - quite frankly - some really great views and photo opportunities.

When you browse Kolla art, you’ll inevitably notice that many of our art pieces include a steeple or two, whether intentionally featured or not. These magnificent towers are so integral to a Stockholm skyline, so quintessential to many of Stockholm’s most famous views, so they naturally appear quite a bit in Stockholm-centered photographic art.

If you are just getting started in collecting art, or if you are seeking to embellish your home with more remnants of Stockholm and the beauty that encompasses the city, we think a collection of the steeples of Stockholm would be a great place to start. While Kolla features photographs of a myriad of steeples around the city all taken at varying angles and by a fleet of photographers with differing styles and perspectives, we picked three to share today that we believe complement each other wonderfully.

Spiror’ by Carl Jansson puts St John's Church front and center, framed by lovely buildings on Norrmalm. ‘Pneuma’ by Håkan Garnefält showcases the scale of Riddarholmen Church against a backdrop of moody rainclouds. ‘Sofia’, also by Carl Jansson focuses on the silhouette of the Sofia Church against a late summer’s sunset. We find the visual cohesiveness and storytelling between the three images and their featured steeples undoubtedly alluring, and we hope you do, too.
