There is a phrase often used when discussing interior decorating and design. “Does this space spark joy?” When deciding what to fill our homes with, what to hang on our walls, what pieces to invest in, our judgement is oftentimes, intentionally or not, based upon if joy is sparked. We carefully consider if we relate to the piece or concept, if it makes us feel something, if we find it beautiful and worthy to be looked at day after day.
The concept of sparking joy, born out of Marie Kondo’s book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, originated out of a push towards minimalism and mindfulness in all areas of life, but most formidably - within our homes. The desire to declutter and simplify spaces led to the notion that we should collectively make it a goal to keep only the things that spark joy, and to decorate with only the pieces and items that have meaning; to only put our energy and effort into the things that make us feel something worth feeling.
At Kolla, we believe the same concept can and should be effortlessly translated to the art we buy. When we seek out art to meticulously adorn the walls of our homes, shouldn’t we treat it as an important decision rather than a rash one? The place we spend the majority of our time and in which we intend to find rest and refuge from the world should certainly be the place which sparks the most joy. And we firmly believe that art is such a significant and worthwhile way to spark this sought-after daily joy.
Here are some pieces exclusive to Kolla that we have been finding joy in these days. Head to the art section to check out our new arrivals (and old favorites) and let something speak to you, too.
