Choosing the Right Art for Your Space

Posted on 16/04/2020

We take pride in offering a wide variety of art pieces because we know that everybody’s taste in art is just as unique and individualized as their taste in music, clothing, and drinks of choice. We are passionate about creating a truly customized experience from start to finish, ensuring our clients can rely on receiving a truly one-of-a-kind piece of art that they (and we) can take pride in for years to come.

Our commitment to carefully curating a diverse collection of art means that there is always going to be a Kolla photograph suited for everyone. But despite all the positives associated our extensive offerings, we also know that it can feel a bit daunting at times to finally make the commitment to purchase an art piece.

There are a few things to take into consideration before proceeding to checkout, and we hope we can make the process even easier for you with these tips on choosing the right piece for your space.

Consider the Personality of Your Home

Before deciding on a piece, think about the decor style you tend to gravitate towards. Are you more of a minimalist or a maximalist? Are you drawn to more monochromatic color schemes, or are you unafraid of a little boldness? Take inventory of the pieces you tend to be drawn to, and consider what photographs might complement these pieces well. If you prefer a more stark design style, shop some of our black and white pieces to add some layered interest to your home without taking away its unique edge. Allow the art you choose to reflect your home’s style, not take away from it.

Don’t be Afraid to Change it Up

While most people like to keep major investment pieces like couches or dining chairs neutral in order to keep up with ever-evolving trends, it can be so easy to inject a little more boldness or personality in your home with the prints you adorn your walls with. While we do think the art you choose should mirror your style, we also encourage our clients to not be afraid to think outside the box a bit. Interested in color, but not quite ready to commit to a vivid wall color? Test out the waters with a colourful photograph first. It’s amazing to see the astute difference a well-executed print can make to a room without the hefty price tag or permanence of painting a room or purchasing a new sofa.

Express Yourself

Art is a beautiful medium in the fact that it tells a story not only of the artist who created it, but also of the person who sees value in it and purchases it. Take time to browse our collection of stunning art prints, and allow yourself to be drawn to different facets of each one. Remember that the art that you thoughtfully choose to hang on your walls is - whether intentionally or not - an extension of your personality, inner-self, and style. When selecting your photography art, make sure that you choose something that speaks to you, and tells a story that you’re interested in hearing. You will be looking at it for years to come, after all.

Where will it go?

Consider your intended placement of your art. Will a landscape oriented print fill the space better than a portrait oriented one? What size print will look best without threatening to overwhelm (or underwhelm) the space? What color frame will coordinate best with the furniture and finishings in your home? These are all questions worth considering. Be mindful of the location you choose to showcase your print, and make sure that you choose a spot where you can really take some time to appreciate it daily!

At the end of the day when buying art, you really can’t overthink it. Just head over to the art section to browse our collection, and start your journey to picking out the perfect piece for your home.
