Five Decor Elements to Elevate Your Space

Posted on 20/08/2019

The place where we dream our biggest dreams - both literally and figuratively, the place where the mundane becomes monumental, the place where we practice hospitality, the place that we claim as our own little corner of the world: home. Few things are more deserving of our time and energy than curating and caring for our homes, and few endeavors are more worthy than ensuring that our spaces feel more like a sanctuary and less like a drain.

Here are five of our favourite ways to elevate your space.

1. A Bold Statement Wall

Whether you embrace the neon pink route or stick with a palette that is more subtly striking, statement walls have the power to immediately turn your space from “ehh” to “exquisite”. Adding some pattern or color to a room through shades of paint or wallpaper is an intriguing way to allow your unique personality to shine within your home. And with the recent rise in popularity of removable wallpapers, even rented walls can have the freedom to help turn your place into an ultra-personalized, ultra-chic paradise.

2. Plants, Plants, Plants

Aside from the unbeatable health benefits (hello, naturally purified air), there is just something supremely inviting about entering a room filled with plants. Warm up your space by lining windowsills and filling sunny corners with layers upon layers of lush greenery. From hanging plants, dramatic trees, climbing vines, and even a practical collection of potted herbs, there are countless possibilities for your budding indoor garden.

3. Open Storage

Long gone are the days where all of our belongings are expected to be hidden away behind cupboard doors or tucked away in hallway closets. It’s time to embrace the notion of open storage from your kitchen to your closet. Opting for open shelving units in your kitchen can make room for a place to display your favorite china collection, antique appliances, or the shelf-worthy cookbooks you cherish. In your bedroom, free up some closet space and making your morning routine a breeze by hanging your seasonally appropriate attire on an attractive clothing rack. When everyday items become focal pieces of your home, your space starts to feel much more lived-in and welcoming.

4. An Abundance of Textiles

Few things are more decidedly cozy than coming home and wrapping up in a warm, familiar blanket. Carelessly toss throws and blankets of varying color and texture across your bed or your couches, and make an effort to leave an appealing basket of blankets in every main room of your home. Not only do textiles add some subtle interest and texture to your living spaces, they also act as a means to extend some comforting hospitality to your guests.

5. Art and Photo Prints

Curating a thoughtful and personal collection of art pieces and photography prints has the unique ability to bring together many facets of your life and beautifully contain them within the bounds of your home. Meaningful photographs of places you’ve travelled, a stunning series by an artist you admire, or even a print composed of the perfect shade of blue to complement your new couch are all worthy of finding a place within your space. In a time where the majority of photographs are only viewed digitally, filling your home with tangible photographs is a sure way to elevate and set apart your home.
